Purple Hebe
20 Jun in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (1)There is a respite from the relentless rain we have been having, so I took lunch outside today. This purple Hebe is in full bloom and smells wonderful.

It was full of little skittish butterflies, which would all lift off whenever I tried to photograph them…. I got this one though!

These guys paid no attention to me and just carried on carrying on….

There was other gorgeousness outside as well.

Bluebells
27 Apr in Flowers | Comments (0)We are right in the middle of the bluebell season. I am lucky enough to have a garden full of these little bulbs that produce such abundant foliage and the most glorious blooms.

One of my neighbours, a gardening guru and plant purist said that mine are not the variety indigenous to the UK. That might be, but they are still lovely.
We spent some time in Devon last week and walked the cliff top path between Newton Ferrers and Wembury – where sections of the cliffs are carpeted with what I would imagine are the real thing – darker blue than mine are and with not as many flowers on a stem, but just spectacular!

you are forced to resort to trickery and other methods of prettifying….

Hellebores & Baking
03 Apr in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (2)All the fancy schmancy florists on Twitter are doing it, so I am too………

There has also been baking. The kind I like – where you can cover a multitude of sins with some artfully arranged fruit, a sprinkling of icing sugar and some pretty flowers.

Happy Weekend!
25 Mar in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (2)Hasn’t the weather been fabulous? I feel like I don’t know myself, blue skies, bulbs galore and sunshine… bliss!
I am off to the Country Living Fair this weekend – I’m taking my daughter, who has never been before – a bit of girl time.
Aren’t these wild violets pretty? I had to leopard crawl for this photo …. it was worth it.

I have sold the last of the Shell Pearl Earrings and have taken them off of the site – why, oh why did I not buy more Shell Pearls…..!
Purple Hyacinths
22 Feb in Flowers | Comments (1)I have planted a lot of spring bulbs in baskets and grown them indoors this year. Last year I was not very successful, but this year’s bulbs have done beautifully.
These are the last of the hyacinths to flower – and are so unusual – I have never seen hyacinths with double petals before. I bought the bulbs from Long Barn in Alresford.

Hyacinth Bulbs
16 Jan in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (4)My first hyacinth bulbs have just started flowering.

I plant hyacinths every year, I love that they are the first little bit of colour you can expect after packing away all the Christmas twinklery.

This year I have some which I haven’t seen before – berry, not quite plum, but darker than one expects from pink. I bought them because I thought that they might match my new cushion covers – and they do!

I had pinned this post of Lilac & Lily’s on my Pinterest board and fiddled around this morning with my basket. Not quite as artfully arranged as hers, but I’m happy with it. Bright green moss and peacock feathers finish it off nicely.

Sweet Peas
06 Jul in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (0)Sweet Peas, such unassuming little things… their scent gives their secret away though….

Summer Pickings
04 Jul in Brush Cottage, Flowers | Comments (2)Isn’t it great when you can wander into your own garden and pick flowers for a vase? My garden is loving the summer sunshine as much as I am!

This magnificent rose is in full bloom in my garden at the moment – Mme Isaac Pereire. It’s a real showstopper – with a scent that makes you think you have died and are in heaven. I took this photo this morning and have used it as a desktop background and being the giving sort of girl that I am – thought I would share it with you! Pick from the sizes below to download the right one for your desktop – but if you need a size that isn’t here then contact me and I can do one for you!
